And volleyball has begun!

Lyn's team is the Blazers. She is so proud. (Her mom graduated from UAB, you know the Blazers.)
There she is with her new short haircut. It was a little bit of a challenge but her team won. She is playing with the eight graders. She matches a lot of them in height but they definitely have weight on her. She is fast and has pretty much perfected her overhand serve. She has skipped up to 8th grade in her schooling so I guess it all evens up in the end....

The season is over

Lyn's team had their last game tonight. They have been undefeated all season. It was close but they lost the last game. That put them in second place in their division. Lyn wanted a picture of all of her trophies from each season. So, there you go.......

Lyn's 3rd win of the season

You can't judge a book by it's cover. The team The Riptide played tonight was huge! The girls were tall and big. I was sure they were going to give us a run for our money. Lyn is the youngest on her team and looked tiny compared to these other girls. Well, we showed them. We won with no problems. Lyn has developed a lot more control. Her serves are good and her aim is good. She could stand to be a little more agressive on the court but they are all that way. No one wants to hurt anyone's feelings so they let everyone have a turn at the ball but sometimes you just have to dive after it. Way to go girls!

The Riptide wins their first game

The first game of the season and the Riptide won the first two matches of their first game. It was quick and easy. Lyn is the youngest girl on her team  but she is keeping up just fine. At 5'1'' tall I always think of Lyn as pretty tall for her age but there are quite a few girls a lot taller than she is on all of the other teams and her own. Maybe this year she can play in both seasons. We will see. Way to go Riptide!

Volleyball season has started...

Lyn has been patiently waiting to start playing volleyball again. First practice finally rolled around.  There were quite a lot of girls playing this year. I brought Annika, Evan, and Eliot with me to watch her first practice. I brought some of mu work toys in to keep them busy. They had fun playing in a corner for a while. When they got a bit more rowdy we moved to the foyer. They each found a wooden ring from a stacking toy and had a blast rolling them back and forth. It is amazing how kids can invent their own play when you just give them a chance.

Volleyball Season is Over

Second Place!!!

Lyn's team the RIPTIDE made it to the finals this season. They played the last game on a modified full court. It was a close call. They won the first set and the other team won the other two. Lyn is down front in the middle. Second place isn't that bad. The girls had fun and have made a lot of progress. Way to go RIPTIDE!

Volleyball

The RIPTIDE Wins Again!

Lyn is enjoying her second season of volleyball. They won their game last night. She is getting better every week. We are looking into going to see a UAB women's volleyball game to give her a bigger perspective of the sport. She talks about possibly trying out for the middle and high school teams and possibly playing in college. I know it could be just a fad but I feel she needs all the support I can give her.

As all 5th graders in public school Lyn has to read every night (or she is supposed to). She seems to be conveniently leaving her library book at school. I reminded her that her reading goals are not limited to only library books. I happened to be holding a copy of the Helena City News in my hand and I handed it to her. I told her to go ahead and read this before she went to bed. It is a pretty detailed but simple magazine. A few days later she came bounding in my room excited about a volleyball article she found in the magazine. It was a small article with a picture about a Helena native who plays on UAB's (University of Alabama at Birmingham) volleyball team. What a way to tie everything together.

Lyn in action at her game!!

Cokes at work.....

I have been trying to drink less soda lately. A co-worker brought me a temptation. Thank you for the cokes.
