Yesterday's all boy well visit..

Yesterday was a busy day. Can I just say I love my boys' pediatrician. I switched Evan to him because of his new needs with his eye infection and bloodwork factors. And, getting 3 well visits on a Saturday with 3 kids and no other appointments and free parking is such a plus.

Evan's appointment was a well catch-up visit plus a follow-up from his eye infection with a pediatrician  / internal medicine doctor. I'll start with Eli. He was actually well behaved for his age. He just got impatient but did fine. He didn't really need anything.  He is my biggest Blevins  boy. His measurements put him in the 30th and 50th average percentiles! Ben got 2% on his BMI and Evan less than 1%. Ben and Evan both have the beginnings of scoliosis but just need to be monitored right now. Evan's iron was good so I guess his supplements worked. They couldn't run a full blood panel on the weekend but the pediatrician wasn't worried about his numbers because of his age and size. I got some information and interventions for Ben with his challenges right now. We'll see how everything goes.

Dinner on a budget...

Dinner on a budget... we have been blessed to have access to a local food pantry and my food storage. I lost my job and my husband is trying to get more hours. I have donated to food pantries before and I bless you who have done the same. The kids loved it so much that the beans and meat were long gone...

Boiled cabbage seasoned with sea salt, dill, and taragon; red and pinto beans with yesterday's roast drippings; rice cooked in the cabbage water for extra nutritional value. All just the cost of the seasonings...

Eating a raw potato 🥔

Yes, I know eating raw potatoes is not the healthiest choice. Well, the 3 year old apparently was still hungry after roast, mixed veggies, Eliot made garlic bread, and fried seasoned potatoes. He snached a washed raw potato from my cutting board and away he went. I was fully expecting him to take a bitter bite and bring it back. Nope, over 3 hours he munched on it as his desert like an apple. I used to eat a slice or two as my mom was getting dinner ready but I never imagined anyone let alone a 3 year old eating a whole one. We shall see how his bathroom trips are today. There are some health benefits from eating fresh, non-sprouted, non-green, well washed potatoes but definitely not a whole one on a regular basis. Oh Elias....

Happy Birthday Ben...

Happy birthday sweet Bennie. 11 years ago a little before 2pm he was born. Such an easy baby and sweet boy. He is still such a tender spirit. God has big plans for him.

A kind gesture...

After a long night I stopped on the way home to get WIC. I am on a strict budget for groceries and this program greatly helps. Well, I know all the ends and outs of the program and what foods are accepted but sometimes foods aren't put into the cashier's systems. For some reason the grapes I chose would not ring up. So, I gave them back to the cashier to take off my order. I thought she was going to do what I asked. Instead she ran a gift card that I believe was her own to provide grapes for my children. It was a long night without sleep and I was over wrought with her kindness. I know it seems like a little thing but it wasn't. I told her manager so she could get credit for her kindness. I cried on my way to the car. When I got home I cooked a hot breakfast for the kids. They were so grateful...

What to do?

Well, it is my last day at work. I stopped working multiple jobs. I kept my most flexible one that paid more if I took higher need clients. The problem with working Home Health is that you never know what your client's  / patient's needs may be. I am happy that my full time client is better but now I don't have an income. I have one child who is not school age yet so daycare is an income drain if I try to go get a teaching job. Working hours where I didn't need childcare was the answer. Starting tomorrow will be the first time in decades that I have been unemployed. I am terrified....

And I felt a tightening in my chest, a cough, and some congestion with fatigue earlier today. All I could think of was Covid...

I can't get sick. Moms can't get sick.
