I wear many hats and special instructor is one of them. If you don't know what that is by now I'll remind you. A special instructor is a developmental specialist that has education, training, certification, and good ole common sense to help support the development of children birth to age three with special needs. Of course a special instructor also has to have extensive knowledge on the development of typical children too. I try not to use my children as guinea pigs too much to hone my skills but they seem to enjoy it. Ben is almost 4 months old. We are working on supported sitting and tracking in these two pictures. Annika was my instructor in training for the day. I supported Ben with minimal hands on assistance as he worked on balancing himself. Annika talked to him and held that cool blinking LOUD ball for him to watch. She moved the ball across his field of vision to encourage him to shift his position to follow it with his eyes. He was using his motor as well as his cognitive skills to coordinate all that was asked of him. He did great.
I created this blog to allow anyone who wishes to follow the life and times of Susan Betke and her family.

Cokes at work.....
I have been trying to drink less soda lately. A co-worker brought me a temptation. Thank you for the cokes.

By the way, I got my ball from a consignment shop for $3. It can be expensive from amazon or even wal-mart but the link shows a lot of information about the ball itself!
